How a Website Can Act as an Online Marketing Tool

It sounds almost ridiculous; having an online presence but not actively selling anything. Some businesses might see it as a luxury too far, but before you write it off completely, just think of the potential positives.

Firstly, how often do you find yourself going online looking for offline information? For example to locate a restaurant, find cinema times or just to get a map of your route. It’s a virtual Yellow Pages where all companies compete for visibility, not through size of adverts or alphabetical supremacy, but through search engines.

No matter what industry you’re in, a website can ensure that your name is out there in the most accessible public domain possible. Whilst you may have signed up to some online directories to provide contact information; people quite often now prefer to evaluate you based on the information and quality of your website. If you can’t provide an online hub, then you could be immediately losing out on new custom.

For a good example of a successful high street company with an online presence but doesn’t actively involve itself in selling, then take a look at Primark. The well known low-price shop has recently launched a new site, but, unlike their stores, they don’t sell a thing. It might sound odd, but what the Primark website does achieve is an easily accessible online information hub. Customers can come in and find out more about the company, recruitment opportunities and how to find/contact any store.

This model can work for any company. Whilst it will cost money, you could find yourself channelling a whole new line of revenue into your business. However, as previously alluded to, there are certain things that you must bear in mind; first and foremost of these is the SEO.

To get noticed online organically, you need to be at the rank well on the search engines. In order to achieve those loftier positions you need a strong search engine optimisation campaign. This essentially means that every page has to be optimised with keywords in both invisible HTML and on page copy.

It’s not always the simplest process, but if you’re new to online marketing you may well want to get some professional assistance. You can find SEO consultancy services or top quality search marketing agency with relative a little research; but ultimately, it will comes down to your own personal preference as to whom you finally choose, if anybody at all of course.

But with greater numbers of people becoming hooked up to high speed broadband and our general reliance on the medium always expanding, now is the time to get your company online. You don’t need to have the best or the biggest website online, you just need something that your targeted visitors will find appealing and engaging; hopefully enough to finally use your services. It’s a 24/7 marketing tool and one that you should be taking advantage of as soon as possible.
