You’ve taken the plunge, you’ve developed a website, but nothing’s happening. You can’t find yourself on search engines, you’re getting no traffic, it’s a disaster! Don’t panic. Your hard work isn’t going to waste, you just need to have a little patience and do a little extra work.
It’s a remarkably common set of circumstances. Some individuals and businesses expect the Internet to provide instant magical results. They want to be ranking on the first page of Google’s SERPs and to have hoards of targeted traffic flooding to their homepage. Surprisingly, they end up disappointed.

Duplicate content is one of those things that SEO professionals are always warning against. Whether you’ve got multiple domains for one site or have borrowed (or have had borrowed) some site content from elsewhere, potential pitfalls are abound.
The first problem is multi-domains. This is something that Google recently addressed by saying that you wouldn’t be directly penalised by them; however, this stops short of confirming that there is no ranking penalty due to the dissipation of linking strength.

Algorithms can be a strange thing. Sometimes, a search engine will push a site to the head of its list for no obvious reason. Whilst this can be frustrating – or extremely rewarding – there’s nothing that can be done about it; well, nothing except improving your own.
Ethics in SEO are essential. Not everybody has them of course; some will sell you impossible guarantees of success, others might just lie outright. There’s no way of buying your way to the top. In fact the moment that money starts changing hands for SEO purposes is probably the moment your site will have committed search engine suicide.

For anybody looking to start implementing SEO on their site, one of the first things that you’ll need to define are the keywords. But how exactly do you go about this?
Keywords are all about creating a sharper focus; allowing search engines to easily understand what each page is about. So is it better to have a wide diversity of keywords, all of which have an association with the page, used in moderation; or just a few targeted phrases used more liberally.
