We’ve all heard of e-commerce, a term related to buying and selling products and services via the Internet, but what about mobile commerce? Well, in effect, this is the same process as above, although it’s conducted via a mobile device or a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA).
Today we find ourselves using our mobile phones to connect to the Internet and carry out a number of activities; the Blackberry and the iPhone are some of the more common types on the market. Whether it’s to purchase tickets, look for news, access emails, shop, search, bank, or access media files, the mobile has become a growing platform which shows a significant change in user habits and how we use the Internet on a daily basis.

All change in the social quarters once again as Foursqaure has introduced an ‘Explore’ feature on its site. What this essential does is take data from the site’s previous ‘check-ins’ which are then shown as recommendations when you are searching for something in a particular location. Foursqaure say they have enabled this feature on their application and on their site to help people find interesting things nearby at the exact time they need it.

Mobile communication has increased over the last ten years and the ability to target specific SEO campaigns can now be applied to mobile search via the Internet. Therefore, any business should be taking advantage of this latest development. It’s the perfect time to capitalise on this form of SEO and failing to do so will only leave you with a harder, more time consuming task, further down the line.
Like many people you probably carry your mobile phone with you most, if not all of the time. They have become an important part of people’s lives because they keep us connected with friends, family, colleagues and the rest of the world. It’s because of this that people are more inclined to use their mobile device to search via the Internet when they are out and about. For example, if you’re visiting an unknown town in England, you might decide to search for ‘restaurants’ in that specific area. In addition, the mobile isn’t just being used for search either, as YouTube is predicting that mobile devices will be the most popular form of viewing videos in the UK by 2013.

As a result, there has been a surge in mobile searches, as the more traditional methods of using search engines on desktop computers and laptops has shifted to include mobile phone and tablet devices as well.

According to Google, mobile search increased four times faster than PC search in 2010, making it one of the fastest growing areas of technology, whilst the increasing popularity of tablet computing only adds to that prominence.
But whilst an understanding of the technicalities of mobile SEO is important, it’s not as important as an understanding of the mobile user and ensuring we meet the needs of an increasingly savvy audience.

Bing has been a search engine on a mission. Whether on Internet browsers or mobile devices, its market share has been steadily creeping up for the past year or so – extremely steadily in the UK. However it is in the former of these two markets where they have been making real strides in recent months.
First of all they buddied up with Nokia, becoming the default search provider for all devices. Now though they’ve made a similar deal with RIM, developer of BlackBerry products.

It’s going to be a big year for the mobile Internet. Whilst it has been growing in momentum over the past decade, now it appears that the technology, range, speed and accessibility have combined to make for a revolution.
For anybody who has used the Internet on a mobile device, you will know that it is quite different. Due to the smaller screen and certain loading limitations (for example many are still unable to open JavaScript) websites don’t appear the same, if in fact they appear at all.
