There are no prizes for being second, certainly not when it comes to reporting news stories and information of broad appeal. The advent of real-time search and instantaneous Google News updates makes it all the more important that you get your story out there before anybody else.
As with most organic results, news stories and blog posts are often given added weight based on the strength of a site and when it was first published. So if you are reporting on industry news and have missed the boat by some time, you can expect your organic traffic to be a little disappointing. However, if you manage to beat the rest and get your content out first, the benefits can be huge.

A lot of people struggle when it comes to writing white papers, blog posts and guest articles online. Not necessarily with the content itself, but more with the concept of giving it away for free. How can that possibly benefit your business? Surely there are better ways of marketing your services?
The truth is that knowledge sharing is integral to the Internet. People have been doing this for decades and will continue doing so for some time to come. It’s not just information that we share though. Some companies give away prizes, discounts and even products. The idea is fundamentally the same though. If you give stuff away, people will become interested in what you offer. If you hide away and do nothing, you could be missing out on huge opportunities for exposure.

If you’ve set up a business blog on your website, or even independently, then you’ll probably be well aware of how challenging it can be populating it. Not only do you need to write content, but you also have to decide what exactly you’re going to be covering.
Visitors don’t want to read the same thing time and time again, they also don’t want to be bored senseless or have to wait weeks for the next instalment. So how can you create a business blog that doesn’t end up turning people away? Well, first of all you need to create posts on subjects that visitors will enjoy.

It is entirely customisable and can take any direction you wish; however there are common mistakes that can quickly undermine your efforts. Here are just a few things you should be looking to avoid on your business blog.
1. Fail to post regularly
If your last post was on Valentine’s Day in 2008, there’s a fair chance it will be viewed as a huge irrelevance. Whilst it’s never too late to resuscitate a flagging blog, leaving it in a state of disrepair is likely to cause my problems than it solves. People won’t think the site is well managed and that can reflect on your services as a whole.

You’ll no doubt have noticed that there are a lot of business sites sporting blogs; in fact some have nothing but. If you haven’t already integrated one into your website, you may be left wondering what all the fuss is about.
Well, first and foremost, a blog is an opportunity for you to show off your industry expertise. If your company is at the forefront of new innovations, or is in a sector that is undergoing major changes, you want to be able to show visitors and clients exactly what is going on. If people don’t come to you for news, they’ll go elsewhere it’s as simple as that.
