Why Your Google Rank is so Important

Getting to the top position in Google remains any website owners’ dream. Not without good reason either it has to be said. Ranking at number one for your major key terms can ensure a healthy flow of traffic; one that isn’t bound by budgets, time of the day or your geographical location.

Search engine ranking is ultimately what every site must strive for. It is the very reason that we have SEO and why that in itself is such a popular industry. But nobody has a predestined right to be at the top; you may well be the leading supplier of Brand X in the UK, but if your site doesn’t cut the search engine mustard, you’ll be almost invisible.

So how do you go about getting up there? Well, it’s all about hard work and a bit of nous. First of all you need to understand exactly who it is that you’re trying to attract and what they might be searching for in order to find you. This will ultimately give you the keywords that then go about shaping your entire SEO site structure.

SEO is then a building game. There are numerous blocks that must be put in place to create the kind of infrastructure that any site needs to top a highly competitive search engine like Google. First up, and arguably most importantly is your website’s copy. Without a good smattering of keywords and quality content your SEO will be doomed – for more information check out our recent post on creating optimised copy for your website.

Next up is the HTML changes. Everything that appears under the surface, including Meta, which isn’t visible to the outside world but will still get picked up on by the search engine spiders.

Finally your need a water tight linking structure. Get out there and encourage some major sites, preferably with a PageRank higher to your own, to link back to you. This will in turn help strengthen your site’s authority and give your key terms every opportunity of reaching the summit.

It’s a complicated layering process, but ultimately it is one that could pay hug dividends.
