How To Maximise the Effectiveness of Your Blog

As we’ve previously established, a blog is a great way of attracting attention for yourself, your business and your website. It is a fantastic marketing vehicle, providing useful and engaging information to the wider public, whilst also providing a great opportunity to build strength for your site and attract traffic.

If you have a business website and have not yet implemented a blog, you are missing out on a major trick. Take this blog as an example, it is here to provide visitors to my site with some helpful tips, a bit of an insight into how SEO works and hopefully encourage them to explore the rest of the site. There’s nothing underhanded about it, almost every blog in the world is written to generate traffic and to get people looking elsewhere – whether that’s products, services, other blogs or even paid adverts – just as long as you do actually provide something.

Offering Innovation and Quality

For a blog to be effective, you have to offer something. There has to be something that distinguishes you from everywhere else. Admittedly in the world of SEO, where everybody is producing content at an alarming rate, that isn’t always possible; however, that isn’t true of all industries, so find your niche and start carving it out today.

The higher the standard of your posts, the more likely it is that visitors will want to share it with their friends and peers. So quality should always be the top priority, from there you can start working on the nuances of your post.

Getting Started with a Good Title

First up, after you’ve worked out the subject of course, is finding a title. Whilst you might have a preferred way of doing this, you also have to consider the ease of distributing the blog. If somebody wants to mention your post, you don’t want the title to be instantly forgettable. Similarly, you also want it to get found on social media sites and the search engines – after all, this is another optimised page on your website. Therefore having an optimised title will always help. Use the main keywords of your content and work around that.

Structuring Your Blog Posts

Structure your posts in a way that is visually appealing. You don’t just want to have a solid block of text; people will take one look at that imposing mass and go straight back where they came from, whether or not the content is good. Break it up with clear headings and even try to include images and diagrams where possible.

Research and Understand Your Subject

Visitors are looking for a knowledgeable voice. They don’t want to simply be confronted with a lot of hearsay and flagrant mistruths. If you have sources, site them, if you’ve taken some data from another site, don’t be afraid to link to it. Google likes a link structure that includes plenty of links coming in and leaving a site, these are the electricity that drive the internet and so are needed to ensure that it keeps functioning efficiently.

Promote your Posts

Include links to other pages within your site and blog, then get on and promote the post. The page in itself is naturally weak and so won’t provide anything more than a way of moving around traffic. However, if you market you article and get it seen on news pages, blog submission sites (Technorati is a good example) and social media, you can create a buzz. From this buzz comes readers, from those readers come links and possibly custom. Perfect SEO!
