How to Encourage Natural SEO
It’s often said that the rich get richer whilst the poor, well you know the rest. The same though can be true online. Not necessarily in terms of finances, but the SEO work required to succeed.
When you’re down at the bottom you need to work hard to try and get to the top. However, if you have developed a strong brand identity, are sat at the top of search engines for your primary keywords, others might do the work for you.
You see, when you’re at the top you have instant visibility. People know who you are and are more likely to discuss your brand on their blogs and social media profiles, thus helping to promote your brand further. In amongst all of these mentions you may even find the occasional link too.
Whilst the vast majority of website owners have to fight tooth and nail for every link they get, others receive them simply due to their brand visibility. But this is what Google expects, in fact it encourages it.
Remember that Google sees a link as a sign of authority. So it goes without saying that authoritative sites will invariably attract a lot more links. But that poses quite an issue for the average SEO professional.
You have to build a site to make it strong and perform better on search engines. However, the people at the top are possibly already getting more links and strength naturally. How do you counteract that? How do you get a slice of the action?
Well the unfortunate truth is that you have to work very hard. Think about it this way, you’re an ecommerce site competing with Amazon on a number of items. Amazon will be receiving links from authoritative sources such as national newspapers, leading blog sites and influential artists who might care to share a product link. You won’t have this same general appeal.
Worse still, Amazon won’t just be getting more links each day than you, but they will often be good quality and already be in plentiful supply. This linking prowess is difficult to emulate. Therefore finding your own niche and working hard to carve it out is all the more important.
You have a lot of catching up to do, so rather than looking at it as some kind of impossible dream, get on with it. Build your brand, get some exposure and let people talk about you. Do what you can to encourage conversation, be seen where it matters most and expand your horizons.
Social media is a great way to develop relationships and create an identity for a brand. Slowly you can increase your followers and develop influence, providing greater strength to the information you share. In time this can help to convert into SEO strength.
Use PPC to develop your search engine visibility. Get clicks on your site, let people see how good it is and hopefully they’ll tell their friends and followers about you.
There are no guarantees and you certainly won’t be the only one trying to do this exact same strategy, but you have to be proactive. Whilst the big sites get bigger and brands dominate SERPs, you want to get amongst this elite not constantly fight against it. SEO can help you achieve this, but the effectiveness of your branding work will be important in fast tracking SEO efforts.
