How to Increase Your Website Content Naturally
Many who are new to SEO are often blinded by the notion that content helps to improve your Google ranking. Yes, content will help your pages improve relevance for certain phrases and encourage search engines to rank you better as a consequence. However that isn’t a free pass to fill your pages with endless words.
There’s nothing to suggest that having 2,000 words on each page won’t help you improve your SEO authority; in fact many would argue that it does. Unfortunately though, you do have to justify their inclusion.
If you land on a 10 page site with 20,000 words on it you are probably entitled to ask some questions. The first one probably being: ‘why hasn’t this been categorised better?’ The second one, as a result, is likely to be: ‘where do I start?’
Words on a page are often quite imposing. If they roll for pages and pages, the casual observer’s attention is likely to drift. So what might be helping your site achieve higher rankings could also be causing you to lose visitors. Not exactly ideal.
If you do want to include over 1,000 words on your pages, make sure you plan it properly. Simply having one continuous blurb simply won’t work. You need to have a navigational structure and offer the reader enough that they don’t need to read every word but can find what they are after quickly.
Alternatively, you need to find a way of including more content over a wider spread of pages. Whilst you should be looking to optimise each page as a unique entity, you don’t have to just focus on one or two. For example, is it better to have your homepage fully optimised with a huge chunk of text stretching to 2,500 words or 10 well optimised pages each with 250 words? I would be inclined to suggest the latter.
You see, one page can only earn a set amount of rankings. The more pages you have though, the higher your multiple of rankings is likely to be. Having a higher number of ranked phrases means that you can attract a more diverse range of visitors, to more targeted pages and in greater quantities too.
Going further, if you want to include even more content on your pages you need to take a look at your Meta, headers and Alt tags. These are all vital components in improving your overall authority with the search engines and cementing a pages context for its keywords.
Further still and you might want to increase the number of pages that you have on your site. Of course you don’t want to just bolt on a few redundant pages for the sake of it, you need to improve your site’s breadth more effectively. The most obvious and commonly used method, as I’ve previously mentioned, is to incorporate a blog.
Here you can create a new page each day, improve your structured content, get more rankings and spread your links even further to improve your site’s strength. Better still, your fresh content can attract new links and will also encourage the search engines to index your site more regularly. This of course will help you to improve your ranking and get visitors to keep coming back.
