How to Get More from your Website Content
So you’ve invested time into creating a good blog post or information page, what now? What can you do to get that content seen and ensure that you get some return on that original time you invested in it?
Content, as we all know by now, is integral to SEO. It is what the search engines look for when trying to decode what a website is all about. They use the words on any page to find context and provide a comparative metric for indexing sites that are targeting the same phrases.
Content is context, but it is also there for your human visitors. It can inform, educate and persuade, you just need to find the best platform for it. A blog is a great way of furthering the spread of your website. It can build internal link structures and encourage external links. Posts can earn you individual rankings for phrases you’ve never previously targeted, earning you more visitors and increased search visibility.
But a blog post is only as good as you make it. You can write something exceptional, but it’s worthless if nobody sees it. Whilst success for a blog is far from guaranteed and it can take quite some time to develop a regular audience, the long-term benefits can be significant.
However you can help yourself to get some early value by submitting your content to blog publishing sites such as Technorati. These will share your posts, earn you links and can help to attract traffic. This is good SEO practice anyway, using a similar principle to a directory submission, as you want to ensure that all of your posts are getting some form of strength from elsewhere.
Also, you can promote your content on social media. Whilst this won’t do anything to improve your search engine presence, it can certainly generate interest. The more people that visit your site remember, the greater your chances of having them migrate towards money pages or indeed encourage incoming links. Besides which, viewers always add to your confidence and provide a straightforward metric for you blog’s development.
If you are promoting blog content make sure that your feed is available to readers through RSS. This will allow them to add it to their own personal feed and will update every time you post a new piece.
You also need to get some social bookmarking links on your site. This might slow things down a little, so make sure that it doesn’t have a negative effect on your site, but largely it should encourage readers to share it with others and generate more buzz around your content.
You might also want to consider submitting your blog feed to Google News. Whilst they are pretty selective about what sites they include, getting your posts listed within Google’s News section can do wonders for your traffic levels.
Essentially, you need to make sure that people are well aware of what you have to offer at all times. If you’ve spent time creating something you’re proud of, don’t let it go to waste. Dig deep and market it fully. It could well have more far reaching benefits than you would expect.
