SEO, Naturally
There are so many complex elements associated with SEO that it almost appears like topping Google is the ultimate in impossible dreams. The truth is though, much of it is actually very natural. For example your content, it makes sense to have a decent amount of descriptive copy that is well written and includes targeted terms – it is in fact obvious to the point of just being a given.
Unfortunately though, many websites are still getting tangled up in the complexities of perfecting their background coding and forgetting all about the issues staring them right in the face.
Here’s another good example, linking. Now we all have to work hard to build our linking structures. Whilst we go off and search far and wide for directories, submit articles and make comments on blogs to get a few valuable links pointing back to our site, there are other more organic ways of doing this.
Of course you should always take the time to track down links, the more the merrier (so long as they’re legal of course), but that shouldn’t be to the detriment of your site’s quality. You see one of the best ways to gain links is to create something worth linking to. It sounds simple, but by generating some content that will appeal to people – maybe a blog post or some unique content elsewhere on your site.
There’s no way that you can force people to link to you in this regard, in fact doing so could put them off, in these instances though you might want to consider cross promotion of your content – perhaps with social networking or bookmarking sites. This way word of mouth could encourage people to visit and then link back to your site – thus building your strength.
When it comes to writing your actual site content, there is not exact formula. There are of course a few standards codes by which to abide, the first of which is to ensure that everything is correct. Spelling mistakes and other language errors are the bane of so many websites and can be a significant factor in turning away vital visitors.
Next, always ensure that it is all unique. Copying and pasting might be easier, but that won’t do you any favours with readers, search engines and other webmasters. Whilst it might not be possible to write a sprawling essay for each of your pages, it is always best to have something. This will give your human visitors something to help understand what it is that you do, whilst informing those all important search engine crawlers the context of that particular page.
So essentially there is plenty that you can be doing to improve your websites rankings without even getting technical. Whilst you will eventually have to delve a little deeper and do some fine tuning here and there, it is always important to first make sure that you have a structurally sound website that is worthy of garnering the attention of passing Googlers. It’s by no means an easy process, but one that doesn’t need to be as confused or complicated as some make it.
