Improve Conversion Rates through your Title Tags

When it comes to your website, your title tags are important to get right from the start. These tags are viewable to firstly, your customers, and secondly, the search engines and they can be found in the search engine results pages and also at the top of your web browser page. Search engines use these when they index a website and they allow the engines to establish what the page or site is about so that it can be categorised accordingly. As a result of this, they are an important part of the whole SEO picture and so time should be spend on getting these tags right.

To a certain degree, title tags can impact where your website appears within results, the traffic it receives and can even boost conversions. The titles tags are picked up by the search engines and the page is ranked, allowing the user to find the page when conducting a search using keywords. If the user is convinced to click on the link due to the information that the title tag displays then this can result in a conversion once the user is diverted to your site. Obviously the process is a lot more technical than this, although this is the general pattern that takes place. The following tips will help you when it comes to getting your title tags set up.

Remember the characters

65 is the maximum amount of characters that you should use. By going over this amount you will cut off the rest of the text and this won’t be visible in the SERPs when someone conducts a search. As you are limited, you need to think about the best way to convey what your website page is about, striking a balance with your character allowance without going over. You need to be specific with what you do too, so sometimes it’s best to narrow phrases down so that it is clear what your site is about.

Keywords

We know that keywords are effective when it comes to SEO and the rule still applies for title tags – just about. As a guide try to use one or two keywords for each page but don’t use these phrases for a number of pages as you could dilute the effectiveness and targeting. If the search engines see this then they could view it as duplicate content and if your site is punished you will only limit yourself in terms of the amount of people that you can reach online. You never want to be restricted when it comes to SEO.

Company name in tags

Some people are a little unsure as to whether they should use their company name in the title tag or not. Ideally you should include it where possible, but think carefully about where you want it to go within the tag. Never just use the name of your company by itself because then you are wasting characters. Instead, use other words to work around your title and this way you will gain the most out of the characters you have available from an SEO perspective.

Conduct research

See how similar companies within your industry are using title tags. This shouldn’t be for the purpose of copying their content as this won’t do you any favours, but you can see what they are doing and use this as a basis for your own wording. There are free tools available to help you establish and analyse keywords that your competitors are using so these come in handy when you are working out specific words to use within your title. You want the search engines to rank high for the keywords that you are using and alongside this you need to work out how to get people to click through to your site via the SERPs.

The end product in SEO is all about conversions and title tags can help you to achieve a boat load of them. Therefore, when you are optimising your website, title tags should not be ignored. The links viewable in the SERPs could be enough to make your customers click through to your site and make a purchase so start optimising your title tags today in order to get the most out of your SEO efforts.
