Can Ethical SEO Compete With Blackhat Techniques?

Generally speaking blackhat techniques will be picked up by the search engines and the perpetrators punished. However, this isn’t always the case. There are still occasions where you can get a huge benefit from bending the search engines rules, for as long as you remain undetected.

Let’s take link buying as a primary example. Whilst many would class this as more of a grey area, it is against Google’s usage policy and therefore it certainly couldn’t be construed as ethical. Link buying is still hugely popular though; this is in no small part due to the fact that it is often difficult to trace whether a link is natural or not.

Only in instances where links are disguised as something else within a site or another obvious example of link buying will you often get penalised. However, if you aren’t prepared to take this risk, don’t believe it is worthwhile or wouldn’t even know where to start, what can you do to beat those who are actively involved in blackhat techniques?

Well, there are plenty of sites who adhere to ethical SEO practices that are prospering. It isn’t easy, but what is online? SEO is a building process. It is all about strengthening your site, proving your authority to the search engines and ensuring that you rank for the most appropriate phrases. All of this is entirely possible within Google’s rules.

I often use it as an example, but your content can be a deciding factor. Whilst links are hugely important, ultimately they are only one part of the ranking process. If you can produce quality content that is optimised for the search engines and your visitors that will produce a major benefit.

It is the most natural of SEO techniques and, in many ways, the most logical too. Linking is subject to manipulation, the search engines of course are fully aware of this. A few strong relevant links can provide more value than hundreds of weaker equivalents; achieving these naturally is possible, although not always straightforward.

Ethical SEO does take time and results may vary during that period. However you never have to be concerned that the search engines might take exception to the work that you are doing. As soon as you start spending money on riskier services to fast track your ascent to the top of the search engines, you leave yourself open to long-term damage.

By following the SEO guidelines and ensuring that you don’t fall foul of the search engines’ wrath you have a great chance of getting to the top and sustaining your position. You will have to invest plenty of time to get it absolutely right, but ousting those blackhat SEO sites is far from impossible.

Create good quality content, optimise your on-site elements to their highest capacity and find links that will provide you with the most benefit. Quality content and a decent website that is visitor friendly will always attract links. Quality is what breeds success online, let the others take chances by buying links that may have a negligible effect.
