For anybody looking to start implementing SEO on their site, one of the first things that you’ll need to define are the keywords. But how exactly do you go about this?
Keywords are all about creating a sharper focus; allowing search engines to easily understand what each page is about. So is it better to have a wide diversity of keywords, all of which have an association with the page, used in moderation; or just a few targeted phrases used more liberally.

If possession is nine tenths of the law, then surely content is much the same when it comes SEO. The importance of having a site that is full of top quality content, fully optimised for your keywords can’t be overstated.
Not only will your site’s visitors be able to access information and navigate their way around with ease, but the search engines will give your site greater authority and subsequently, a higher ranking too. The world of SEO and copywriting are inextricably linked. SEO without copy just isn’t viable.

It sounds almost ridiculous; having an online presence but not actively selling anything. Some businesses might see it as a luxury too far, but before you write it off completely, just think of the potential positives.
Firstly, how often do you find yourself going online looking for offline information? For example to locate a restaurant, find cinema times or just to get a map of your route. It’s a virtual Yellow Pages where all companies compete for visibility, not through size of adverts or alphabetical supremacy, but through search engines.

Whatever your budget and whatever market you’re in, you always want the very best exposure for your website. Online, the best way to get yourself noticed is through the search engines. And to appear at the very top of Google, Yahoo or Bing, you need rock solid SEO implemented throughout. If you can’t do this yourself, then your first priority should be to find someone who can.

But to ensure your site benefits from the longstanding effects of good SEO, you may need to invest a little more capital.

You’ll no doubt have noticed that there are a lot of business sites sporting blogs; in fact some have nothing but. If you haven’t already integrated one into your website, you may be left wondering what all the fuss is about.
Well, first and foremost, a blog is an opportunity for you to show off your industry expertise. If your company is at the forefront of new innovations, or is in a sector that is undergoing major changes, you want to be able to show visitors and clients exactly what is going on. If people don’t come to you for news, they’ll go elsewhere it’s as simple as that.

You’ve just set up a brand new website, optimised it throughout, got a great design, but it’s just not delivering the conversions; so what’s wrong? Well, on the face of it, absolutely nothing. However, the search engines can be fickle things, as can website visitors, so don’t take anything for granted. Instead, get yourself an analytics account.
Rather than simply blindly scouring through your websites architecture for areas that could be optimised further or pages that may require aesthetic tweaking, aesthetics can help pinpoint fundamental issues. For example, if a page is getting a high amount of traffic but the vast majority are almost instantaneously moving to another website or back to their original search, what can you do?

SEO isn’t an exclusive practice. It certainly shouldn’t be something that you see as optional either. There are millions of sites out there competing to get on the top rung of Google for any key term. Without any form of SEO, your site will simply wither and die.
Your site’s aesthetics will count for nothing if people can’t find you. Whilst you can hope for a word of mouth campaign or similar offline marketing, nothing can compare with the continuous stream of traffic that search engines can provide.

The Internet is rarely a stable place. However, developments in the last few months, particularly in the realms of search, appear to far outweigh those in recent memory.
First of all in June, Bing gets announced. There’s a major furore as Microsoft sneaked it out a few days early, possibly in an attempt to avoid Google attempting to trump them – which they actually did with the announcement of Google Wave on the very same day.

The major news story in the world of search engine optimisation is regarding the emergence of a new Google project nicknamed ‘Caffeine’. This hybrid search is supposed to increase the speed and efficiency of search and provide a far more valuable SERP for users.
However, what will have many SEO professionals worried is how the algorithm will change and what this may do to rankings. Google’s relationship with the world of search engine optimisation over the years has been strained. After cleaning up the black hat practices of yesteryear – thank goodness – a new wave of wholesale changes look to be on the cards.

Getting to the top position in Google remains any website owners’ dream. Not without good reason either it has to be said. Ranking at number one for your major key terms can ensure a healthy flow of traffic; one that isn’t bound by budgets, time of the day or your geographical location.
Search engine ranking is ultimately what every site must strive for. It is the very reason that we have SEO and why that in itself is such a popular industry. But nobody has a predestined right to be at the top; you may well be the leading supplier of Brand X in the UK, but if your site doesn’t cut the search engine mustard, you’ll be almost invisible.
